Marriage Information

If you wish to get married in Ringkøbing we advise you to read the following instructions carefully.

You need to fill in a marriage form and present necessary documents. A copy of the marriage form and the necessary documents you can send us per E-mail. If we can accept the documents, we can give you a date for marriage. The day before the wedding at the latest you have to show up in Ringkøbing Borgerservice with all original documents. Of cource we can only confirm the wedding date, if the original documents match the copies.

You need to present the following documents:

Valid passports
Residence permits if you live abroad
Schengen-visa if required or proof of entry and arrival to Denmark or Schengen area
Certificate of marital status
Divorce decree if you have been divorced
Death certificate if you are a widow/widower

More information about certificates and divorce decrees
Certificate of marital status (no older than four month). If you are not a citizen of the country in which you are a resident at present, you must present the same documents from your native country.

The certificate of marital status must state:
Name
Date of birth
Place of birth
Address
Citizenship
Marital status

The certificate must be translated by an authorized translator into Danish, English or German if in another language.

If one or both of the parties are divorced
Divorce decree:

Complete original divorce decree, legally signed.

You must be sure that the divorce decree cannot be appealed anymore and therefore the divorce decree must be final.

The decree should be submitted in the original and in a translated version, if not issued in Danish, English or German.

If one or both of the parties is/are a widow or a widower
Death certificate:

• Death certificates must be approved before you will be able to get an appointment.

• The certificate should be submitted in the orginal and in a translated version, if not in Danish, English or German. Translations alone are not sufficient.


NB! Divorce decrees and death certificates issued in countries outside the Europa (with exception of the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, Estland, Lettland and Litauen) must be presendted in the original with a Legalization/Apostille. The complete Legalization/Apostille must also be translated and handed in.
